About DVSAC

Our History

DVSAC began in 1986 on St. Croix, as a result of the first domestic violence conference held in the Territory. Since that time, we have expanded efforts on all three islands. To achieve our mission, we have:

  • Brought service provider agencies together
  • Hired central staff, including prevention outreach specialists
  • Opened satellite offices on St. Thomas and St. John
  • Provided training and education on domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking conflict resolution, and their sub-topics
  • Worked on policy and legislative initiatives to improve the responses to victims
  • Held annual conferences and seminars
  • Developed brochures on V.I. protection orders, safety for victims, sexual violence, and human trafficking
  • Presented DVSAC as a model at the Caribbean Studies Association Conference
  • Developed the People’s court watch Program
