There's No Excuse for Domestic and Sexual Violence

Virgin Islands Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council

The DVSAC logo image reaches out on many levels. The sun represents permanence, strength and hope as a new day begins. The rays of the sun reach out embracing the Virgin Islands. The circle demonstrates continuity and support. The rings indicate depth. The colors chosen represent national colors associated with both domestic violence and sexual assault organizations. The colors have been bumped up only slightly in intensity to instill an island flavor.

History
DVSAC began in 1987 on St. Croix, as a result of the first Domestic Violence Conference held in the Territory. Since that time, we have expanded efforts on all three islands. To achieve our mission, we have:

  • Hired Staff
  • Opened satellite offices on St. Thomas and St. John
  • Contracted outreach specialist workers
  • Brought service provider agencies together
  • Held yearly conferences and seminars
  • Developed brochures on V.I. restraining orders, safety for victims and same sex violence
  • Presented DVSAC as a model at the Caribbean Studies Association Conference
  • Worked on policy and legislation initiatives to improve the responses to victims
  • Provide training and education on domestic violence, sexual assault, conflict resolution, and their sub-topics
